FAQ

General

How do the musicians dress?
-The musicians dress in classy black unless otherwise requested.

What do you require at the venue?
When you book solo violin, Kaycee provides all sound equipment and nothing additional is necessary.  The quartet requires 4 armless chairs, and enough space to set up and play comfortably – an area of 8X8 feet minimum.

Will you perform outdoors?
-Absolutely. To protect our instruments and provide you with a quality performance, we require full shade and no precipitation.

Can you play a special request?
Yes we can! We have an extensive library of music, but if we don’t have your request in our repertoire we will order your music and have it prepared for you.  Depending on the cost of sheet music and complexity of the piece, the extra fee for this varies.

Are the musicians I see and hear on this website the same ones that will play at my event?
Yes.  Occasionally, due to illness, unavailability, or emergency, we may need to fill in with another musician who has experience playing with us and is familiar with our repertoire

Weddings

Do you perform at receptions as well as wedding ceremonies?
-Yes, we play at ceremonies, cocktail hour, and the reception if you would like.

If the ceremony and reception are in different places can you change location. How do you charge for that?
-Yes, we can change location and have done so frequently. We charge based on the entire length of the engagement, including travel time between locations. For instance, from the start of our prelude music, to the end of our playing time at the reception or cocktail hour.

Can you set up on the beach for my beach wedding?
-There are restrictions set by the DLNR (Department of Land and Natural Resources) for what we can set up on the beach. Permitting is required and the restrictions change from time to time. Check with your coordinator to insure permitting requirements allow for music stands and chairs on your chosen beach.

Should I have music before my wedding ceremony?
-We recommend prelude music 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony. This sets the mood as guests arrive and wait for the ceremony to begin.

How many pieces should I choose for my processional?
-Traditionally one piece for the wedding party, and one piece for the bride. If it is a short procession, one piece works nicely for both.

How will you know when to start processional music?
-We will need a cue from the wedding coordinator and we will arrange this upon arrival.

How do we time our entrances to finish with the music?
-Leave it to us. We are experienced at timing our music to you. We just need to know how many people are processing to each piece of music.

What if it rains at my outdoor wedding?
-Plan B is always a good idea in case of rain. This is the tropics and sprinkles are common and frequent. Because our instruments are valuable and extremely sensitive to weather, we cannot continue to play if it’s raining unless we have full coverage. There are no refunds for inclement weather.

Planning

When should we select the music for our wedding?
-We would like to know your ceremony music 2 weeks in advance. If you have a special request, we will need to know at least 3 months in advance to allow time for professionally arranging or ordering music.

Can you play with a singer or instrumentalist who is performing a song at the ceremony?
-Yes, absolutely. We will gladly communicate directly with them in advance. We require the music for the special music number at least a month in advance. A short rehearsal at the venue before the prelude is required and we will charge accordingly for this.

Will you attend the wedding rehearsal?
-It is not necessary for us to attend. We have performed at countless weddings and are experts at timing the music. We will touch base with your coordinator before starting prelude music and discuss the cues.
